Tears for an Anonymous Teenager

Deliquiscence (Pride with eau de Parfume), by *TreMichLan* @ FlickrA forlorn peek above our garters to Miss Vicki at God is a Dyke for bringing us this bit of heartbreaking news.

(Original source seems to be the Reading Eagle, via 365gay.)

Apparently, Joyce Y. Beddell, 61, walked in on her sixteen year old granddaughter in flagrante delicto with another girl from the neighborhood. Instead of politely excusing herself, Mrs. Beddell chose a different, heartbreaking path.

The granddaughter had just finished having sex with another 16-year-old girl and was in an upstairs bedroom. Beddell walked in and found them together. The neighborhood girl ran out of the house to her nearby home while Beddell was beating her granddaughter with the cane.

The Eyes of Texas Are No Longer Upon Your Dildo

A peek above our garters to kendallmck for bringing this to our attention.freyavibe, by lobstar28 @ Flickr

Angela K. Brown of the AP (via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram) brings us this orgasmic news:

FORT WORTH, Texas — A federal appeals court has overturned a Texas statute outlawing sex toy sales, leaving Alabama as the state with the strictest ban on such devices.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Texas law making it illegal to sell or promote obscene devices, punishable by up to two years in jail, violated the Constitution’s 14th Amendment on the right to privacy.

Things That Make Ya Go Hmmm....

aids scorpion

It's been a while since I've posted here, and for my recent lack of desire to do much blogging, I must apologize. I've been feeling the urge creeping up, however. Whether that's a good or bad thing remains to be seen, I suppose. :)

Anyway,

As long as the subject of zoophilia is currently in the spotlight at UDoJ, let me bring up something that I've been pondering for several weeks. In France there is an AIDS awareness campaign out that plays on our societal aversion to the "Ickyness" (to borrow a phrase) of sexual contact with animals to make the point that sex can be dangerous.aids spider

Obviously the ads would never fly here in the United States. The modern fundamentalist religion movement has forcibly dragged the societal acceptance of rational discourse about sex and sexuality far enough into the closet to prevent the ads from ever seeing the light of day on billboards and bus stops. Visual depictions of sexuality on this level are verboten in public due to the appeasement by both our society in general and our government in particular of the medieval false-prudery of a group of people with no connection to reality.

Discussion continues, below the fold.

She Should Run

Last night at my blog UDreamOfJanie I got this comment, from Joey Appley-Epstein:

Hi Janie Belle,
My name is Joey Appley-Epstein, and I’m writing to you on behalf of a project by the Women’s Campaign Forum called “She Should Run.” The goal of the project is to encourage both women and men to nominate inspiring pro-choice women to run for office — in every type of election from school boards to the United States Senate. So far, the project has collected 800 nominations and because of the positive feedback and response, we’ve decided to make a final push to 1,000 total nominations.

For this final push, we have decided to reach out to online communities for their help. The project focuses on the encouragement, empowerment, and election of pro-choice women. As you yourself are pro-choice I thought you might be interested in taking action for this movement. To reach our goal of 1,000, it certainly is going to be a community effort and we would really appreciate your help in discussing this special project before it concludes.

The greatest part of this project is that it’s the real thing, too, and not a superficial exercise by any stretch of the imagination. As the nominations have come in, the WCF has been following up to make sure these women receive the support and resources they need to run. They’re even planning their first training session with women who have been encouraged to run as a direct result of this project.

With that, here are some resources on the project:

Congress Votes to Repeal Global Gag Rule

Zimbabwe 1, by babasteve @ FlickrA great big peek above our garters to Chris at SitPS for pointing us to Heather, and to Heather at Scarleteen for pointing us to this:

Via Tod Preston at RHRealityCheck:

Last night, despite President Bush's veto threat, the Senate passed the FY 2008 State-Foreign Operations Appropriations bill (by a vote of 81-12) that includes significant provisions overturning destructive policies on family planning and HIV/AIDS. Thanks to the leadership and commitment of Senators Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA), the Senate bill not only includes the identical measures in the House-passed bill (H.R. 2764) -- exempting contraceptives from the Global Gag Rule and repealing the abstinence-only funding restrictions for HIV prevention programs -- it goes even further by repealing the Gag Rule entirely.

Sean Fritz and Tim McQuillan Seal First Same Sex Marriage In Iowa

Anéis | Rings Not wasting any time and taking advantage of a $5 waiver of the waiting period in Iowa, Sean Fritz and Tim McQuillan sealed the deal on the front lawn of Unitarian minister Rev. Mark Stringer.

A few hours later, Judge Robert B. Hanson formally stayed yesterday's ruling that the law declaring that valid marriages were only between a man and a woman was unconstitutional, and that the state had no valid interest in arbitrarily discriminating against same-sex couples by denying them the right to marry.

Iowa Court Rules Same Sex Couples Cannot Be Denied Marriage Equality

Anéis | Rings Caught this rockin' news just before heading to bed and had to share!

(CNN) -- An Iowa district court ruled Thursday that same-sex couples can marry based on the state constitution's guarantee of equal treatment, court documents show.
The ruling was in response to a December 2005 lawsuit brought by six same-sex couples seeking to wed. They were denied marriage licenses and claimed such treatment violates equal-protection and due-process clauses in the Iowa constitution.
The court also struck down a state law declaring valid marriages are only between a man and woman.

Prenuptial Bliss

Wedding Procession, by Taylor Dundee @ FlickrChandra Marie Schaefer was just sending the groom off to his wedding with one last wild oat to remember (via the AP wire on Lycos, and an article at The Forum in Fargo to which I no longer have access and can’t link). Nathan Ross Blair had apparently carried his bachelor party a bit far, and was reported to police by a friend at about 3:15 AM for flashing a peek above his garters to passing motorists. He was wearing a kilt, and it seems reasonable to assume that the residents of Fargo, ND are now privy to the answer to the age old question of what Scotsmen wear underneath those things.

Ms. Schaefer apparently liked what she saw, as the pair was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and fornication when the police found them near a tree and away from the car where they began their tryst.

Ms. Schaefer pleaded guilty and received a $300 fine and a year of unsupervised probation for her her troubles, while Mr. Blair pleaded not guilty and has a date with the judge on October 16.

No word on whether they will speak to the back-stabbing friend again.

Also no word on whether the bride showed up at the chapel.

From whence came the art:

That photograph is titled Wedding Procession, by Taylor Dundee.

Jesus and the Jogging Shoes

pope, by Alan Light @ FlickrJust before dawn, it's a little over sixty degrees Fahrenheit. Not too bad for summertime in Colorado. Perfect jogging weather. You know it's going to hit ninety today though, so you'd better get started. You've decided to loose a little bit of that midsection you've acquired over the years of your priestly duties.

Being a Catholic priest has few physical demands, and spending every day ministering to the needs of your parish, while important and necessary, is also sedentary. Time to get started here at the local high school track.

The cool mountain air is brisk on your face. It's just a little uncomfortable on your hands, as well. Fortunately, you're not sweating too much. That wouldn't be pleasant.

You're just finishing your second lap when the red and blue flashing lights appear, and tires squeal through the parking lot. Deputy Fife and his S.W.A.T. team of armed ninjas have you surrounded.

"Freeze!"

Dr. Don McLeroy's Take On Sex Ed in Texas

Dr. Don McLeroy, Ready to Destroy Education in TexasOn the heels of my post at UDreamOfJanie about anti-science Sunday School Teacher Dr. Don McLeroy being appointed head of the Texas Board of Education, allow me to bring to your attention another of Dr. McLeroy's religiously motivated dangers to education in the Lone Star State.

I'll spare you the awful frames at his homepage this time, and point you directly to his statement on abstinence only Sex Ed.
