Cover Thy Ass - at all costs

OK - Let's not get all that excited. I wrote COVER not COVET. So take a deep breath, calm down, and enjoy the post. An article cross-posted on the CNN/Time websites provides some fascinating insight into why our poor, misunderstood leader, GW, has gone to the mattresses in support of his AG when he was willing to trash other sympathetic members of his inner circle. And since his anointed AG has a direct influence on all of us here and our ability to live our lives and express our sexuality in the manner we find most appropriate, I think its a good read for everyone.

Personally, while I understand and agree with the story and its reasoning, I believe he keeps him around as much for the fact that his initials and job title are indentical which makes it SO much easier for him to remember who he is and what function he fills.

Senator David Vitter Caught With His Hand In The Panty Jar

David Vitter, Busted Once again illustrating the "Do as I say, not as I do" nature of medieval fundy morality, it seems David Vitter, Republican Senator from Louisiana has gotten caught with his hand in the panty jar. Touting his misogyny in a section of his official website entitled "Life & Values", he spends a bit of web estate telling us how he knows what's best for us regarding our options in the case of an unwanted pregnancy:

Anarchist Kink

A few days ago, on her blog, the inimitable Mistress Matisse described her and her partner's BDSM play as "anarchist kink," meaning the typical dom/sub hierarchies don't really apply in their play. (Things are different with her clients, I'm sure.) In other words, as she writes, they switch a lot and are very kinky. Later she posted some video of some friends of hers that "take it to another level."

So, what do you think of anarchist kink as a concept? Some would say BDSM is anarchistic by nature, or at minimum subversive, a obvious rebuke to traditional social institutions and mores. Those who try BDSM realize that it's actually incredibly formal, as freaksexual has written, a level of intense formalization that says a lot about power in society and raises interesting questions about consensual power play.

NY Assembly Passes Marriage Equality Bill

Something new to be proud of during Pride Month!

The New York State Assembly voted to approve marriage equality legislation with bipartisan support. This is a first in the country. When MA legalized marriage for same-sex couples it did so through the courts (though the legislature recently protected that decision) and in CA where marriage equality legislation was passed and then vetoed by the governor, not a single Republican voted for the bill. 85 assembly members voted in favor of the legislation, including four Republicans, while 61 voted against. That's the good news.

The bad news, as noted in this article in The Advocate, is that common wisdom holds that the legislation, which would give same-sex couples the same access to marriage that opposite-sex couples have, will be impossible to pass in the Senate, where there is a very slim Republican majority.

America, Behold Thy Future

Constitution Burning

My heart is rather heavy this morning. I actually came across this story last night, but was so depressed by it that I just couldn't bring myself to say what I so badly wanted to say.

The parallels are disheartening in their striking similarity to what would become of this country if we continue down this road we're on. Though I've been slightly encouraged by events that are small indications that the United States is waking up and reversing course, I am by no means comforted by such minor happenings.

As I've said many times, the basic underlying principle of our founding documents is that every American should be allowed to do whatever she wants, so long as she doesn't interfere with any other American's right to do the same. We have strayed so far from that ideal!

Perverted News Roundup #3

This edition of the news roundup is devoted to Verizon, who managed to help delay it by dropping my internet connection for about three hours yesterday, and then kept me on the phone for about an hour doing all sorts of useless shit to the computer before realizing that there was an outage in my area. Thanks, guys.
