Austin: weird but not freaky

There's a pretty big lifestyler and bdsm scene in Austin but my sense is that these scenes are WAY underground, certainly compared to the west coast or eastern seaboard. There are no public sex clubs or play spaces in Austin like the Wet Spot in Seattle or p/e in SF. Naturally Texas politics is to blame, but is that the whole story? I'd like to hear other opinions about this (maybe I'm wrong?).

This is where I'll fly my own flag, as I tried to raise this subject in an occasional column I write for That Other Paper in Austin.

Sex Calumny

A "discussion panel" approach to sex advice offering readers who submit questions a wide range of expeirences and opinions rather than a single viewpoint.

*This is not advice by sex therapists or doctors. If you're looking for expert advice look in the Sexuality Research and Information section.

Welcome!

Welcome to Sex in the Public Square! We believe that sexuality is a fundamental component of human life, and that it cannot be excluded from “polite conversation” without losing an important element of democratic participation. We are working to expand the space available for discussions of all aspects of sexuality, so that participants in democratic community life can be fully seen and recognized, can share information, and can become more educated and informed. We also believe that talk about sex needn't always be "serious" in order to be "appropriate" and we welcome playful conversations that focus on the fun of sex as well as serious conversations that focus on things like policy, safety, and identity.

What you’ll find inside

-Blogs and articles on sex in social policy, sex in the news, sex and the law, and, well, sex, all with active discussions and comments.
